FedEx Cup Playoffs Preview

The PGA Tour season has reached it’s “Sunday” as the FedEx Cup Playoffs and the Ryder Cup are the last remaining events in the 2017-2018 wrap around season. The addition of the FedEx Cup Playoffs were introduced in 2007 to entice the casual golf fan to pay closer attention to golf after the end of the PGA Championship instead of waiting until the following spring for The Masters. For the most part, the Playoffs have captured this and have add some late season drama for the golf world. Although most sports fans begin to think about the upcoming football season after the PGA Championship concludes, the Playoffs provide some compelling golf for those yearning for more golf. The Playoffs begin this week at The Northern Trust at Ridgewood Country Club in New Jersey, where Dustin Johnson is the defending champion. Rickie Fowler, due to injury, and Rory McIlroy, due to rest, will be among the notables not in the field at the opening Playoff event. The Top-125 finishers from the PGA Tour regular season are eligible for the first leg of the FedEx Cup Playoffs and have all secured their PGA Tour Cards for the following season. After The Northern Trust this week, the Top-100 in the FedEx Cup Standings will advance to the Dell Technologies Championship at TPC Boston. The third leg is the BMW Championship at Aronimink Golf Club, outside of Philadelphia, where the Top-70 in the standings will qualify. Finally, the Top-30 after the BMW Championship will qualify for the Tour Championship at East Lake Golf Club where a champion will be crowned and $10 million will be awarded to the winner.

FedEx Cup Winner: Dustin Johnson

Tiger Woods projection: As seen above, I expect Tiger to have a big run here in the FedEx Cup Playoffs. I believe he will make the cut in all of the events that have a cut and then emerge victorious at the BMW Championship at Aronimink and eventually finish in the Top-5 in the FedEx Cup Standings. What a turnaround from Tiger and he certainly has done his best to hold off father time for the moment.

Enjoy the Playoffs and I’ll see anyone before the Ryder Cup in France!

Hop on,

Jordan
